Our Rating: 7.5/10Okay, the premise is pretty out there. A society where, if you can't pay the bills for your organ transplant, two guys with sharp instruments will show up at your home and hack you open to repossess them. I'll admit, I had to work pretty hard at my "willing suspension of disbelief" for this one.
However, there's a lot more going on here than just the shock value of this premise. As in most films depicting a dystopic society, you have a pretty grim version of the future, which is controlled by corporate entities. If you watch for the cues, there are some pretty clever, tongue in cheek observations of our current consumerist culture.
Despite the occasional goofy moment, the story itself is solid. It's based on a novel called "The Repossession Mambo", and the twist ending is pure awesomeness. There are a few clues to what's coming, but they're subtle enough to miss. I think it hits just the right notes between dark cyberpunk and satire.
The movie is also pretty violent, so it might not be one for the squeamish. Repo Men won't be for everyone's taste, but open minded viewers are probably going to appreciate it as a "hidden gem".
